AL Maktoum Honours Refund Promise

Middleman in the Sputnik V vaccine saga Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum of the Royal family of Dubai has refunded the $2,470,000 worth of vaccines he failed to supply to Ghana.
Following the termination of the contract to supply 300,000 doses after he supplying 20,000, the Minister for Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Manu, demanded refund of the unsupplied doses of vaccines.
“By this letter, I wish to formally request for refund of the remaining amount for non-supplied dose, which should be the total amount paid to your office, minus the amount due for the 20,000 doses you already supplied, in line with your earlier e-mail dated 25th July, 2021 in which it was affirmed that on 13th April, 2021 funds were transferred into your accounts as 50% advance for the initial batch of 300,000 doses”, Agyemang Manu said in the letter.

The Sheikh promised to refund it in a letter dated 5th August,2021.
 

In a recent letter from the Sheikh to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, sighted by opemsuo.com he indicated, “the requested amount of $2,470,000 has already been refunded to the designated bank account as communicated by you.”
The Health Minister, Mr. Agyemang Manu engaged the private middleman, Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum, in order to secure doses of vaccines for the country amidst global shortages.
The agreement which breached the directive of the World Health Organization also disfavoured the country as a dose of the vaccine sold at $10 on the global market was secured at a cost of $19.
The sole decision taken by the Minister came to light after a bipartisan enquiry committee was set up to probe the issue.
During the probe, the Minister said he took the decision solely because he was under intense pressure at the time the country’s COVID cases was on the rise and decided to seek parliamentary approval later.
