UTAG Strike: NLC On The Offensive
The National Labour Commission has promised to file motion of contempt of court against the University Teachers Association (UTAG) by the close of Monday, August 9, 2021, if it fails to call off its strike.
NLC secured an interlocutory injunction to compel UTAG to call off strike and return to lecture halls today.
Following this, UTAG noted that it was seeking legal advice for their next line of action.
On Sunday, August 8, UTAG issued a statement which reflected resolution of its members from thirteen public universities.
“The consensus is that the withdrawal of teaching and related activities must continue until government puts some enhanced and progressive proposals on the table”, the statement said.
The 13 public university include; University of Professional Studies, Accra Branch (UPSA), University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), University of Winneba (UEW), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Navrongo (CKT-UTAS).
Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape-Coast (UCC), Universty of Development Studies (UDS) and University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
UTAG declared a strike action on 2nd August, 2021 over issues of conditions of service.
