685 Evidences Assembled By The Koomson Committee

The Koomson Committee instituted to probe the 29th June Ejura clash between some security personnel and residents has recapped it’s probe.
The committee which included Court of Appeal Judge, Justice George Kingsley Koomson, security analyst, Vladimir Antwi Danso and Executive Director of Penplusbytes, Juliet Amoah.
Briefing the media on its final day in the probe, it was revealed that a total of twenty-two willfully testified before the committee.
It also noted that the committee intercepted video, audio, picture documentary, written statement and physical evidences in the course of their investigation.
“The committee’s sitting started on the 5th of July and ended on 16th July. On the first day, we visited Ejura. We sensitized the chiefs and people of Ejura and the chief of Dagomba and his people. Public hearing started and we ended today.”
“We took three days to review the evidence obtained by way of audio and video evidence. In all we have spent twelve days of determining the evidence. In all we got 22 witnesses out of which three of them testified in-camera for security reasons.
“Nineteen appeared in public. We have so far received audio evidence (only one), video footages tended are one hundred and seventeen, pictures in soft copy, five hundred and fifty-five, documentary evidence, eight, written statement, two and then two physical evidence in the nature of catridges.”
“What is left for us to do is to go through the evidence received and write our report and recommendation to the Minister of Interior”, Justice Koomson addressed the media.
The clash between the security forces and the residents of Ejura came about after the murder of a social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed Kaaka.
Kaaka died on Monday, 28th June 2021 after he was attacked at dawn on Saturday, 26th June.
Following his burial, irate youth of the town mounted road blocks causing traffic, according to a statement from the police.
A scuffle ensued between the security men and the irate youth.
Two lives were lost in the process while four others, including a teenager sustained injuries.
The President, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, following this, condemned it and directed the Minister of Interior, Mr. Ambrose Derry to probe and present a report and recommendations within ten days.
The Interior Minister instituted the Koomson Committee for the probe.
