Domelevo was not chased out of office- presidency

The office of the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has categorically stated that the former Auditor General, Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo was “neither sacked nor was his appointment terminated.”

This comes after the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations at a press conference claimed the president and the Audit service board targeted and dismissed the former Auditor General and called on the president to reinstate him to his position as soon as possible.

In an epistle signed by the secretary of the president, Nana Bediatuo Asante, addressing the spokesperson of the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations against Corruption, Dr. Kojo Pumpuni Asante, the claims are described as unfounded allegations.

In view of the request for Mr. Domelevo to proceed on a 123 accumulated working day leave, the letter maintained that the request was not born out of law.

“It is important to highlight that the president, at all times requesting Mr. Domelevo to proceed on his accumulated leave acted based on time-tested legal principle, the rule of law and good governance practice which Mr. Domelevo accepted.”

Further touching the impasse about the Auditor General’s retirement, the office of the presidency said this was after discovery that Mr. Domelevo had clocked the age of retirement.

“On 1st October, 1978, Mr. Domelevo completed by hand, a registration form from SSNIT membership. On that form, he stated that his date of birth was 1st June, 1960.”

Furthermore, “In completing an Old Age Retirement and Invalidity Retirement Benefit Application Form, Mr Domelevo stated his date of birth as 1st June, 1960 and thumbprinted it”

Mr. Domelevo, according to the letter was deemed to retire on 1st June, 2020 by law.
