BREAK: Kotoko sack Maxwell Konadu
Asante Kotoko have dispensed with the services of head coach Maxwell Konadu in the wake of their 1-0 home defeat to Great Olympics in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) on Thursday.
Second assistant coach, Johnson Smith has been directed by management to hold the fort.
Konadu was on his second stint as head coach of the Porcupine Warriors after leading them to the league title in the 2011/12 season.
He signed a two-year deal on December 9, 2019 and has been axed after a year and 9 days following an unimpressive run for most parts of the period.
In 18 matches, Konadu led Kotoko to seven wins, six drawn games and five defeats, keeping just seven clean sheets.
In the ongoing 2020/21 GPL, the 48-year-old led Kotoko in four games – drawing 1-1 twice against Eleven Wonders and Berekum Chelsea, then beating Legon Cities by a goal before the spiritless display against Olympics on Thursday.
Asante Kotoko are faced with a tight schedule, having to play four games in a space of 10 days. Their next game is on Sunday away to Dreams FC before games against Al Hilal in the 2020/21 Caf Champions League and a league clash away to Medeama on December 23 and 27 respectively.
