Motor Transport And Traffic Department Holds Seminar With Key Stakeholders In Kumasi

The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD), an agency under the Ghana Police Service who are responsible for road safety in
Ghana has held National seminar in Kumasi.

The Seminar held in Kumasi, Ashanti Regional Capital, yesterday was held together with National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) and Ghana Journalist Association (GJA).

The National Program which was held yesterday forms part of the steadfast work of the MTTD to decrease road accidents focused mainly on Arrive Alive Campaign.

The Arrive Alive Campaign which was launched in 2001, has become important part of the Department of Transport and Public Works road safety projects and awareness.

Accident has over the years become horrible enemy in the country perishing precious souls.

Road safety experts say at least 2000 people are killed each year in Ghana with 2020 already recorded dozens.

Ashanti Region alone has recorded over 200 road accidents.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director General of the National Roads Safety Commission, Ing. Mary Obiri Yeboah underscored the need for the public to come together to reduce the magnitude of road accidents and indiscipline on our roads.

It is an annual program between National Road Safety Authority and Motor Transport and Traffic Department that should have taken place earlier on but the outbreak of Coronavirus disease suspended it.

“Though we are creating the awareness and sensitization to our people, however, it is important for the public to come together to help mitigate road accidents and indiscipline on our road.”

Commission of Police (COP) Beatrice Vib-Sanziri who is the Director General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department added that, “The campaign will go a long way to help our officers through capacity building to aptly carry out their duties.”
