Military Imposter Slapped With ₵12k Fine
A washing bay worker, Alex Cobbina, has been handed a fine of GH₵12,000 for impersonating a military officer.
The 20-year-old was convicted last month and sentenced today, January 10, 2025, by an Accra Circuit Court presided by Judge Mr. Bright Samuel Acquah.
GNA reports that the court imposed the fine, sentencing Cobbina to pay GH₵12,000 or serve three years in prison, and an additional GH₵6,000 fine or two years in hard labour for the charge of possessing military gear.
Background
It would be recalled that Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) announced his arrest in a statement three weeks ago after he was captured in a viral video wearing a Ghana Navy vest, displaying other military items in a room and alleging that President-elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, intends to sack all soldiers who were recruited into the Ghana Armed Forces through protocol means.
The Forces said further investigations revealed that the young man resident at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra had uploaded several other videos on social media wearing military accoutrements, pretending to be a soldier.
He was arrested by the military police and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and prosecution.
