Govt Constitutes Committee Over Looming Dumsor
The government of Ghana headed by President John Dramani Mahama has constituted a technical team to deal with an impending erratic power supply across the country.
The team is expected to deduce a roadmap to forestall the impending crisis resulting from an upcoming maintenance exercise by WAPCo on the West African pipeline, interrupting the gas supply for power generation in the country.
Speaking to the media, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah assured that the government was taking a serious view of the development and taking the needed steps to mitigate the impact.
“Government has been briefed. It’s pretty urgent. In order to address the situation, a technical committee has been set up with representatives from all the key players in the management of Ghana’s energy sector.
“They have up until the close of day today to put before government the roadmap on what exactly needs to be done and how it can be done.”
Meanwhile, a report by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) suggests that the government requires a total of US$ 89.90 million to purchase liquid fuel to run thermal plants in Tema to meet demand.
The company estimates that system demand will grow to a projected annual peak of 4,415.42 MW by the last quarter of 2025.
