Ogum Admits Kotoko Need To Be Worked On

Head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum has admitted a lot of work needs to be done to put his team in shape to deliver the needed results following their 1-0 win over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

This is from his observation of the team’s wastefulness of goal chances in games.

He is of the firm opinion that their win over the Phobias should have been sealed in the first half of the game but for the numerous chances they squandered.
Dr Ogum thus sees the pressing need to work on that particular shortcoming of his boys.

“There is a lot of work to do. It’s something I must admit as a coach. If you look at the chances created, we shouldn’t have gotten to 90+5 before scoring.

“We should have finished the game in the first half but then games between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are different games altogether,” he said at the post-match press conference on Sunday.

The deadlock was broken in added time by talisman Albert Amoah to give the Porcupines the win at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before their vibrant home crowd.

From the perspective of Coach Ogum, the game was “compact, very tight and very beautiful”.

“It was a very tight game, a very compact game especially if you look at how both teams played in the first half. We matched their play and we realised that they were direct in their approach so all we decided was to leave our bet on top so that they could have three men and launch the attack so that we could have more men in the middle of the park, win the first ball, and then when we get the second opportunity to go into the passing game, we go into a passing game. If it’s not possible, we also play the ball behind him and out of that we created a lot of chances in the first half.”

The win has pushed Kotoko to sixth on the log with 21 points and three points ahead of Hearts.
