Post-election Attacks Must Cease Immediately- Mahama

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has condemned the series of violent incidents occurring in parts of the country following the 2024 polls and has called for an immediate ceasefire.

In a pre-recorded address on his Facebook page on Tuesday, he asserted that the perpetrators were engaged in the violence for their parochial interest instead of the national interest.
“I’ve received reports on state officers and installations. While it’s unclear who is behind these attacks, I condemn them in no uncertain terms. These acts must cease immediately,” he demanded.

Mr Mahama on that note urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the security agencies to be firm in handling the person behind the attacks.

“Because State power is still in the hands of the present administration, I call on the President and the security agencies to act decisively to curb the ongoing lawlessness immediately.”

He believes the youth’s anger and frustration must rather be channelled into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding the nation and not undertaking criminality.

According to him, the youth must rather demonstrate commitment to rebuilding Ghana with unity and understanding as the principal tools.

“I urge all our citizens to remain calm and avoid actions that could harm our institutions and our democracy.”

The police since the election on Saturday have arrested 106 suspects for various violence including arson and ransacking.
