Akufo-Addo Congratulates Mahama
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated former President John Dramani Mahama on his re-election by Ghanaians.
This was announced in a statement issued by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communication at the Jubilee House, on December 9, 2024.
According to him, the President contacted Mr Mahama to congratulate him on his landslide victory in the 2024 General Election before the Electoral Commission confirmed it on Monday evening.
“Further to this evening’s official declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, of the results of the 2024 Presidential Election, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to congratulate him on his decisive victory in the just-ended presidential election.”
The occasion was also used to assure Mr Mahama of a smooth transition of power on January 7.
“President Akufo-Addo expressed his commitment to ensuring a seamless transfer of power on 7h January 2025, and looks forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal.”
The 80-year-old exiting president has since invited the former President to a meeting to develop the roadmap for the transition in that regard.
John Dramani Mahama decisively won the election on December 7. He garnered 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes, while his fiercest contender, the New Patriotic Party’s Mahamudu Bawumia, received 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
