Calm Restored after Chaos at Okaikwei Central Polling Station
The police have intervened to restore peace after chaos broke out at the Ansurudeen Islamic School polling centre in the Okaikwei Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
The said misunderstanding erupted while voting was underway.
In a statement, the police said voting continued smoothly.
“Calm has been restored at the Ansurudeen Islamic School polling centre in the Okaikwei Central Constituency, Accra, following some misunderstanding, and voting is progressing smoothly.”
It further encouraged the public to remain calm as they are fully prepared to maintain law and order throughout this process.
Ghanaians are today choosing a new President as well as Parliamentary candidates. The election will see 18,774,159 registered voters voting in 40,648 polling stations in 276 Constituencies.
Twelve Presidential candidates are scrambling for power. They are Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, an Independent Candidate, Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and George Twum-Barima-Adu, an Independent Candidate.
The rest are Nana Kwame Bediako, an Independent Candidate, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mohammed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Kofi Koranteng, an Independent Candidate.
