Fire Engulfs Warehouse at Spintex
A fire broke out at a furniture warehouse at Spintex, in Accra in the Greater Accra Region on Monday night destroying properties worth millions of cedis.
It started around 9 pm and was completely doused by 11:30 pm by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
In a live Facebook session, Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Alex Nartey, said officers from the Kasapreko fire station were the first to respond to the scene on November 11; however, the magnitude of the blaze necessitated the call for reinforcement from neighbouring stations.
Officers that joined in fighting the fire came from the Headquarters, Trade Fair, University of Ghana and Abelemkpe, he said.
“Foam concentrate has been used to fight the fire but the fire is still very much alight,” he disclosed at the time the frantic efforts were underway to quench the blaze.
Meanwhile, he said accessing the engulfed warehouse proved difficult and necessitated the use of adjourning warehouses.
“Accessibility has been curtailed so efforts are being made to break into adjourning warehouses to create space to be able to create access route to fight the fire.”
In a later update on Facebook, the Service said, “Fire Under Control at 2330HRS ….Kudos to the Tactical Officers for a Good Job By Preventing further Spread to Adjourning Warehouses and Preventing any Casualty.”
Meanwhile, the fire was contained from spreading to six other warehouses.
