Otto Addo Partly Blames Ghanaian Media For Black Stars’ Goal Drought

The head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo has pointed fingers at the Ghanaian media for fueling the Black Stars’ goal drought which is nearly costing the country qualification to the next Nations Cup.

According to him, the players return home to a toxic environment created by the media, which demoralizes them and discourages them from performing at their best, as they do when playing for their clubs.

“There are small small margins which can decide a game. For me, it’s not about their ability to score but maybe to bring them into a mental state that is not only my responsibility. The media guys have responsibility too. It’s not only my responsibility.

“Some are working against it…once we make them feel at home when they come, they will give their best and the goals will come but when they come home to a toxic environment, it’s always difficult for them.”

He posited that the goal scoring ability is not a work of just the technical team but the entire nation and therefore called on the media to offer the needed support for the ultimate outcome.

“They are just humans beings and what we can do is support them because we all want Ghana to have success.”

He recognises that these same players “show extra efforts” in their clubs.

The Black Stars in the last four Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers have scored just a goal.
