Current Black Stars Players Are Very Selfish- Prince Tagoe
Former Black Stars forward, Prince Tagoe has observed the current cohort of players for the senior national team are self-centred and fixated on personal glory and fame rather than the collective success of the team.
According to him, the players openly manifest their selfishness on the pitch in the Black Stars jersey while they portray different attitudes at club levels.
Pouring out his observation in an interview with Bryt FM, he indicated that this is the motivation for the current underperformance of the team.
“Our players are very selfish because everyone wants to be on the score sheet and make a name which isn’t right. When these players are at the various clubs, they make sure they play in a system which will yield results for the team but not an individual.
“The individualistic play among the Black Stars players is too much. They always play for themselves but not the team. If a striker is able to create space for himself and does not get the balls, that striker becomes frustrated.”
Many have recognised that in spite of their poor showpiece at the international level, the players shine at the club level where they put in their very best with cooperation at its peak.
This is witnessed in Inaki William, Jordan Ayew and Antoine Semoenyo who find difficulty finding the back of the net for Ghana but seamlessly deliver at their respective clubs.
While some believe they are not given the chance by other selfish teammates, others suggest it’s an issue of loyalty and patriotism.
