Jackie Appiah Wins Best Actress at Africa Movie Academy Awards
The 2024 edition of the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) held over the weekend saw celebrated Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah bagging the Best Actress in a Leading Role Award.
This marked the 20th Anniversary of the continental award scheme held at Balmoral Centre in Ikeja in Nigeria.
Jackie was nominated alongside greats like Girley Jazama for “Under The Hanging Tree”, Oyin Oladejo, for “Orah”, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, for “The Weekend” and Laura Pepple, for “This is Lagos”.
She toppled them to win the award for her role in the “Red Carpet” produced by Samira Yakubu and directed by Frank Rajah Arase with stars like Sandra Ababio, Beverly Aaglo, Ekow Blankson, Fiifi Coleman, Selly Gally and Adjetey Annang
The event took place on November 2, 2024.
The decorated Ghanaian actress has over the years carved for herself a reputation continentally and globally in the movie industry. After her successful career in Ghana for years, she made a strong impression on Nigerian producers with her talent and charisma.
She has starred in films including Beyoncé, The President’s Daughter, Princess Tyra, Passion of the Soul, Pretty Queen, The Prince’s Bride, The King is Mine, The Perfect Picture, Black Soul and Bitter Blessing, and My Last Wedding.
She has won many accolades. In 2013, she won the Best International Actress award at the Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Awards (PAMSAA) 2013.
