Foreign Affairs Ministry Warns Against Submission of Falsified Documents for Visa Authentication

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued a stern warning to persons who intentionally or unintentionally submit falsified documents for the visa application processing.

The Ministry is bent on making such persons face the full rigours of the law henceforth as it flouts the law.

It noted that the presentation of forged or fake documents is punishable under sections 158, 159, 166 and 169 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration’s attention has been drawn to the fact that some Ghanaian applicants knowingly or unknowingly present forged or false documents to be authenticated and forwarded for the processing of visa applications,” it said in a press statement.

“The general public should kindly note that henceforth applicants who present forged documents would be handed over to the police and prosecuted accordingly. Members of the public are hereby to note and comply.”

This comes after the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo decried the issuance of fake marriage certificates by some court staff for the purpose of visa application.

This was during the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) in September in the Ashanti Region.
