Asantehene To Deliver Judgment on Monwire Chieftaincy Dispute

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will deliver his verdict on the chieftaincy dispute of Monwire on a yet-to-be-announced date.

“Let’s set a new date for this. We will deliver the verdict on that day,” he said after a Committee report on the case was presented to the Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday, September 30, 2024.

The dispute emerged after one Abusuapanin Kwabena Ofori challenged the legitimacy of the Queen, Nana Agyakomaa Konadu to the Monwire stool.

Opanin Ofori laid claim to the stool which was established for the family of a wife of an Asantehene {Oberemponmaa} who migrated from Denkyira to Asanteman.

He alleged that he is related to Oberemponmaa while the Queen descended from some acquaintances who migrated to Asanteman alongside Oberemponmaa’s family.

According to him, the Monwire stool went to the Queen’s side when his family had no available royal at some point in time to occupy due to religious associations.

He said some had joined Islam while others the True Faith Church, prohibiting them from occupying the stool and creating a void for the Queen’s family to come in.

The Queen on the other hand disputed it, noting that she is related to Oberemponmaa and that the Abusuapanin were rather the strangers who migrated alongside the family of Oberemponmaa.

After scrutinizing the evidence and witness statements of the parties, the Committee found that the Queen and Abusuapanin Ofori were not related. They also found that the Queen was a true royal.

On the yet-to-be-announced date for the meeting of the Council, the various Divisions will table their observations while the Asantehene will deliver his indisputable ruling.
