Barker Vormawor, 1 Other Admitted over Ill Health

The police have confirmed the admission of two of the arrested Democracy Hub demonstrators at a medical facility after they complained of ill health.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor and Fanny Otoo were separately taken to the Police Hospital for medical attention on September 24, 2024, the Ghana Police Service confirmed in a press statement on Wednesday, September 25.

It explained, “Suspect Fanny Otoo, on Tuesday 24th September 2024, complained to the Police that he was indisposed, as the suspects in the case were being prepared for court.

“The Police sent him to the Police Hospital in Accra, where doctors at the hospital attended to him and later admitted him for further treatment.”

For Vormawor- a leader of the pressure group that staged the three-day protest against illegal mining- he reported late last night and was assessed by doctors, the statement noted.

The facility later admitted him for further treatment, the police said, discrediting reports that he had been refused access to medical attention.

“The Police would like to inform the public that at no point in time have the Police denied these suspects any medical attention.”

In a letter to the police shared on social media yesterday, a lawyer for Vormawor urged the security agency to allow their private medical personnel access to his client as he was in dire need of medical attention.

According to him, police medical care was not extended to the activist in custody.
