Challenges with Electronic Voter Register Verification Resolved- EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) says the glitches that were encountered by some voters who opted for the electronic Voter Register verification process have been resolved.

In a notice, the Commission apologized to electorates for the inconvenience.

“The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a few instances where Voters were unable to verify their registration details via the short code provided for this purpose.

“The Commission has since engaged the Service Providers who have confirmed that the initial teething issues with the network have been resolved.”

The EC is determined to collaborate with the Service Providers to ensure that Voters have a seamless experience as it encouraged Voters to take advantage of the avenue to check their registration details.

Voter Register Exhibition
The voter register exhibition exercise started on Tuesday, August 20 and will come to an end on Tuesday, August 27 from 7 am to 6 pm each day at all Polling Stations (Exhibition Centres) in all the 268 District Offices nationwide.

With this, Voters have the opportunity to review registration details, check their Polling Stations, make changes to their details, or make corrections.

Registered Voters can verify their details, i.e., name, age, sex, polling station, and photograph as captured during the registration exercise and make requests for amendments/changes or insertions where necessary to their details in the Voters Register.

In addition to that, qualified citizens can use this opportunity to object to the names of minors, foreigners, non-resident electorate and the deceased on the Voters Register.

Short-code
The Commission has instituted an electronic means to enable voters to verify their registration details from the comfort of their homes or anywhere through the short code *711*51#.

This can be accessed at a fee of 50 Pesewas.

According to the Commission, the option will be available during the Exhibition and beyond.

“If the information received contains any errors with respect to the details of the Voter, the Voter would be required to go to his/her Exhibition Centre to effect the necessary corrections,” the EC has directed.
