Lorry Fares Go Up by 15% from Monday
The Transport Operators Association Of Ghana has announced a 15% increment in transport fares across the country.
The new fares are attributed to recent upward adjustments in fuel prices at the pumps, the recent being the 2% increment which took effect in the second pricing window of July.
The announced increment will take effect from Monday, July 22, 2024.
In its justification, it said, “This has become necessary due to the recent surge in petroleum and spare parts prices coupled with economic hardship.”
“Some oil marketing companies (OMCs) have begun upwardly adjusting their prices at the pumps following the commencement of July’s second pricing window,” said the statement jointly appended by Paa Willie, Chairman of Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana C-DAG, Yaw Barima, the PRO of True Drivers Union, David Agboado, the PRO of Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana C-DAG and Nana Owiredu, the Deputy Secretary of C-DAG.
Additionally, it cited the prevailing economic difficulties and other factors worsening the living conditions of transport owners and drivers for the move.
Commuters have therefore been urged to bear with the situation and cooperate with transport operators.
A litre of petrol is now selling at GHȼ15.10 while a litre of diesel is now selling at GHȼ15.25.
