Asantehene Sends Fine Proverbial Message to Politicians
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Tuesday employed the vehicle of proverbial language to convey an all-important but brief message he had for politicians and political parties in the country.
The message was relayed during an event where the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 Presidential Election was introduced to His Majesty at his official residence in Kumasi.
His message centered on the undefined role traditional authorities play in politics.
“Our constitution has banned traditional authorities from engaging in partisan politics; however, the fact that you have been counselled against staying at loggerheads with your co-wife doesn’t mean she will be spared stink-eye.”
After repeating the proverb twice and having it re-echoed by his chief linguist, Nana Nsuase Poku, Otumfuo left it untouched, anticipating it finds it’s target audience well enough to decode.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on July 9, 2024, introduced the NPP’s ticket for the Election to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace.
He led a contingent made up of executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ministers, Members of Parliament and party supporters to the Palace following the approval of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Running Mate of their flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Among the delegation were the National Chairman of the party, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the Chief of Staff of the President, Hon Akosua Fremah Opare and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
