IGP Still at Post- Ghana Police Service
The Ghana Police Service has characterised as fake news reports that the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare has been directed to proceed on leave.
According to a press statement issued by the Service, the reports are untrue.
“The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to some media reports suggesting that the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has been asked to proceed on leave.
“We would like to urge the public to disregard this fake news and treat same with the contempt it deserves. The Inspector-General of Police remains committed to his patriotic duty of leading the Ghana Police Service as per the mandate given him by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
The rumours that circulated over the weekend emerged from a report by the Daily Guide news outlet. It was reported that the decision could have emanated from the findings of the probe on the leaked audio about the plot between an NPP bigwig and a senior police officer to oust the IGP.
Meanwhile, other sources cited insubordination on the part of the IGP for the decision.
