University of Ghana Medical Centre Undertakes 6 Kidney Transplants

The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) says it has successfully undertaken six kidney transplant surgeries.

These surgeries were conducted by both foreign and local medical team, it announced in a statement on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

“The University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd (UGMC) is proud to announce the successful completion of its first set of six kidney transplant surgeries.

“Under the leadership of a highly skilled and dedicated local and foreign medical team, the UGMC has so far conducted six kidney transplant surgeries with utmost precision, care, and expertise.”

The Head of Urology at UGMC, Dr. Emmanuel Asante, commenting on the procedures said it was smooth and showcased the Centre’s capabilities in complex surgical interventions and post-operative care.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, Dr. Kwame Anim Boamah says the successful completion of the first set of six kidney transplants underscores the Centre’s commitment to pushing boundaries, achieving medical excellence, and improving the lives of patients through cutting-edge interventions and compassionate care.

It added, “UGMC looks forward to continuing its mission of advancing healthcare standards and innovative practices in the field of transplantation.”
