LEAP Grants Doubled
Beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) will not just receive an alert of payment of their delayed grants next Monday but will receive a double of what they are paid.
An amount of GHC 103,251,072.01 has been released by the government in that regard.
A statement by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) on Thursday said the cash grant has been increased by 100% as part of government’s commitment to poverty alleviation and improving the quality of life.
“With immediate effect, the cash grants provided to households enrolled on to the LEAP programme will see a 100% increase (Doubling of the Double) from the 2023 figure.”
A One-Member Household will now receive GHC256.00 with a Two-Member Households taking GHC304.00. Meanwhile a Three-Member Household will take GHC352.00, and Four-Member Household GHC424.00.
Beneficiaries are yet to receive any payment this year; however the Ministry noted that the 89th Cycle cash payment will start on July 1, 2024.
According to data from the Ministry, beneficiary households bi-monthly grants between 2015 and 2023 stood at GHC64 for a one-member household, GHC76.00 for a two-member household, GHC88.00 for a three-member household and GHC106.00 for a four-member household.
Meanwhile, from June to December 2023, the LEAP Grants were increased to GHC128.00 for a one-member household, GHC152.00 for a two-member household, GHC 176.00 for a three-member household and GHC212.00 for a four-member household.
