I’ll Probe State Land Sale By Akufo-Addo Gov’t- Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama says he is determined to launch a comprehensive probe into the alleged sale of some state lands by the current government when he is elected into office in December.

According to him, the rate at which the government has been selling state assets is “unprecedented”.

“The Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government is disposing off state lands and properties at an unprecedented rate.

“When elected, my administration will prioritise the investigation and re-possession of these lands,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

There have been allegations and complaints of the sale of state lands and properties across the country under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Two months ago, the GBC reported the Overlord of the Wa Traditional Area decried a trend in which he said state-acquired lands in the area were being sold off during a visit by the president.

“Your Excellency, of late the craving to rezone unused Government acquired lands and sell them clandestinely to individuals has hit the Wa Municipality. Individuals practically choose which parcels of government-acquired land they want to own, and the managers of our state lands promptly rezone them for them to buy. Your Excellency, if this mad rush to sell off all unused Government acquired lands is not checked, very soon, when we get strategic Government projects that must necessarily be located within the town, we will not find the place to build them. We call for the process to be stopped immediately and the entire process audited,” he said through Jinpenhi Naa, Naa Ibrahim Kadri.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency has accused some sons of the former Chairman of the ruling party, Freddy Blay, of acquiring the beachfront of the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, a state hotel and with further interest in acquiring the entire property.

Their father has since come out to deny it.
