Going Independent won’t be a Prudent Decision- Kennedy Agyapong

Unsuccessful flagbearer aspirant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) race, Kennedy Agyapong, has ruled out the option of embarking on his ambition to becoming the next President of Ghana as an independent candidate, stating it would be unwise.

According to him, he has received countless requests and bits of advice to go as an independent candidate; however, he doesn’t think it would be prudent to embark on such an adventurous step.

The Assin Central Constituency Member of Parliament said this during a ceremony to mark his 64th birthday on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

“People have come to advice me to go independent but that is not the wise thing to do. Therefore I have refused to do that… But what I want all the party faithful to know is that I have not resigned from the party.

“I am not going independent. I’m still an NPP member. Once I’m a party member no matter what happened during the primary, I think we are all party people and it will be best for all of us to stand together so I’m pleading with my supporters, let’s use my birthday to reconcile.”

The politician who was recently spotted taking active participation in the campaign of the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region apologized to his loyal supporters for not informing them earlier about his decision to join the Vice President- his bitter rival in the race for the flagbearership position.

“I joined the Vice President in the Ashanti Region and I know it didn’t go down well with some of you. I apologize for not informing you before I went there.”

He used the occasion to officially dissolve his support base, noting they are all part of the NPP and asked that of the Vice President to do same.

“I’m also pleading with the Vice President Supporters. I know they are intimidating my supporters. If they want us to come together and unite, then they should also reciprocate the same favours I’m rendering on behalf of my supporters

“I’m pleading with both sides. We have finished the election and the Vice President has won and therefore there is no Kennedy Agyapong supporters and there is no Vice President supporters. We are NPP supporters.”
