Remember those Who Openly Endorse You when Elected- Kwaku Manu to Mahama

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has urged the 2024 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama to keep in mind the list of persons in the creative arts industry who openly vouched for his vision for presidency when he gets elected.

According to him, such people face persecutions which sometimes take a toll on their source of income.

At an engagement between the former President and players of the Creative Arts Industry in the country, Kwaku Manu indicated that the landscape of their industry throws a major challenge to their members who would like to join the NDC and thereby the need to honour those who are bold enough to defy all the odds to openly declare their affiliation.

“NDC have their stronghold in the Volta and Northern Region. We (in the movie industry) speak the Akan language which is not an NDC zone. The moment you lay bare your affiliation, your career will be at stake… Please don’t forget these people who have openly endorsed you when you come to power. Many of them have lost their capital.”

The actor who himself expressed his support for Mr Mahama admired his welcoming demeanour.

“Aside from the fact that I am an NDC, I like him (Mahama). He is the only President who held out his hand to take my handshake and draw me closer. There are some leaders I met at funerals who refused my handshake but then when it’s time for elections, they want to hug us just for votes.”

On the challenges of the movie industry, he stated that they are constrained by myriad of government policies.

“We don’t have the industry anymore in Ghana. We are not allowed to take pictures of the Jubilee House but when we get to America, we take pictures of the White House. Our producers are denied permission to use police stations, weapons and others for our job.”
