I Used to Sneak Out at Night as a Child for Shows – Kofi Kinaata

Kofi Kinaata revealed the humble beginnings of his music career in an interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Mac De President on Oseikrom Kwanso.

The renowned Ghanaian musician and songwriter from Takoradi shared that he developed a passion for music at a young age, around class 4 or 5.

Kinaata reminisced about sneaking out at night to attend shows, much to his father’s dismay. He recalled a particular Easter show by a popular musician, where he was determined to watch the performance despite being only 10 years old and struggling to see over the crowd because of his height.

“I started way back in Tarkoradi, Class 4 and Class 5. I realised I loved music and could easily sing people’s songs or easily make versions of other people’s songs. I remember a show by… during Easter, and together with my brother and his squad, I was around 10 years old and was short, so I couldn’t see him perform. I used to sneak out at night at the age of 12 for shows, and my father used to complain.”

However, Kinaata’s love for football initially conflicted with his passion for music, delaying his pursuit of a music career.

He eventually found his footing and has since released numerous hit songs including “Susuka”, “Confession”, and “Things Fall Apart”. He has won several awards, including the Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the year for “Effiakuma Love” at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Kinaata’s music is known for its storytelling, social commentary, and inspirational themes, earning him a loyal fan base and critical acclaim.
