KIA to Operate E-Gate Accessed with Ghana Card – Bawumia
The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) will before the end of year witness the installation of automated self-service barriers for travellers, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced.
The Automated Border Control systems, he said, would be accessed with the Ghana Card.
Speaking at one of his campaign engagements, he said travellers wouldn’t need to check into the Immigration Office while travelling in or out.
This is anticipated to facilitate a smooth and timely process.
“Before the end of this year, if you arrive in Ghana at Kotoka airport, you don’t need to go to the Immigration office. We are putting together the E-gate, you put in your Ghana Card and it will open for you and you enter. The E-gate will come into work in Ghana before the end of this year.”
In 2022, the Vice President announced the Ghana Card has obtained international recognition as an electronic passport (E-passport) at airports across the globe by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
