Akufo-Addo Escaped Unharmed in Convoy Accident- Presidency Confirms
The Jubilee House has confirmed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo came out unharmed in a road accident involving his convoy over the weekend while travelling to Accra from the Ashanti Region.
In a statement on Sunday, the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin, confirmed the death of one person in the accident as well as the injuries of several others but indicated that the President escaped unharmed.
He also confirmed that several of the vehicles were wrecked in the accident which occurred along the Bunso-Akyem stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
“The unfortunate incident occurred whilst the convoy was on its way back from Kumasi, after accompanying the president to Kumasi for a series of events this weekend.
“One of the drivers, Mr Kwesi Atta has lost his life. Additionally, several close protection and police officers from the President’s security detail have sustained varying degrees of injuries and received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.”
The unharmed President is reported to have been airlifted to Accra in Military aircraft while the injured were transported to the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra for further treatment.
