Asantehene Is ‘Obaatanpa’ – COP Kofi Boakye
The Former Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Kofi Boakye, has described Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as “obaatanpa.” He attributed this title to Otumfuo’s impartiality, emphasizing his lack of favouritism or tribalism.
He noted that the King even extends his care to people from other ethnic groups, much to the surprise of his own people.
“Otumfuo is ‘obaatanpa’. Whether you are from Anlo, Akuapem, Akyem, the North, or anywhere else, he does not show favouritism. Sometimes, our own people become upset when Otumfuo appoints someone from another tribe or ethnic group to a position. But if he was biased, he wouldn’t intervene in matters in Yendi or Bawku,” Boakye explained in an interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Kofi Boakye.
He urged the people of Asanteman to continue supporting Otumfuo so that he can further contribute to the development of the region.
On the occasion of his 25th enstoolment anniversary as king, the retired police commander expressed gratitude to Otumfuo for the progress he has brought to Asanteman and Ghana as a whole. He noted Otumfuo’s role in facilitating Ghana’s access to a loan from the World Bank.
