Peace Council Is A Disgrace- Sam George
The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency, Sam Nartey George has branded the National Peace Council (NPC) as the country’s black sheep.
According to the lead sponsor for the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, the Council is a threat to the country’s peace and must thus be disbanded.
“The Peace Council is a disgrace and a shame. I’ve said it before and I’m saying again. The Peace Council is one of the biggest problems of this country. They are hypocrites. Extremely hypocritical. We’ve seen the posture of the Peace Council.
“The Peace Council has become a very political organization. It should be disbanded for the sanctity of Ghana’s peace. The Peace Council is a threat to our peace. It’s a bunch of hypocrites who have sold their conscience like the way Essau sold his birthrights,” he said in an interview with Jonnie Hughes.
This was in reaction to the Council’s neutral stance on the bill which has since been passed by Parliament awaiting Presidential assent.
In an interview over the weekend, the Chairman of the NPC, Rev Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, announced their deliberate neutral stance on the controversial bill due to their mandate.
“We don’t have a position on the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill because we are mediators, we don’t take sides on issues like this. There are several issues that have come to us that people expected us to take sides, but realised it was important to remain neutral when they later came for conflict resolution.”
“We are waiting to see how things will unfold, so we know whether to mediate or intervene in the event of a conflict,” he added.
