FA CUP: Cities, Tano, Dreams Book Quarterfinals Slots
Six Premier League clubs including defending champions Dreams FC and two lower-tier clubs have survived the next round of the MTN FA Cup this season.
Bofoakwa Tano, Karela United, Nsoatreman, Bechem United, and Legon Cities survived in the thrilling Round of 16 that saw giants like the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club succumbing to relegation-threatened Karela United on Tuesday, February 13 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
Kotoko was beaten with two second-half goals by Karela.
Meanwhile, Nsoatreman kept floating after their nervy 5-4 penalty shoot-out against Berekum Chelsea when a goalless scoreline prevailed till the end of extra time at Nsoatre on February 14.
At the Len Clay Stadium on Saturday, a 1-1 stalemate between Bechem United FC and Division Two side Akwaboso Young Madrid FC forced the game into a penalty shootout where the Hunters prevailed in a 5-3 victory.
Legon Cities proved their seniority to Nania FC at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu scoring two goals and conceding one while Bofoakwa Tano recorded the only goal in their encounter against Wa Power FC on Saturday.
In other matches on Sunday, an emphatic 4-1 win in favour of Dreams FC advanced them to the Round of Eight while Soccer Intellectuals defeated Hohoe FC by two goals to advance with Sky FC surviving on a 3-4 penalty shootout against Elmina Sharks.
