Nsutaman Sompahemaa, NGO Cut Sod for Construction of Teachers Quarters

Nsutaman Sompahemaa, Nana Yaa Adwubi Kete, in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) called Adehye Empire, cut the sod on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, for the  construction of Teachers’ Quarters – Phase 1 at Fawoman-Dida D/A Basic School in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The theme for the project is “The Role of Queen Mother in Community Development”.

The ultramodern teachers’ quarters, upon completion, will have four (4) bedrooms, washrooms and kitchens, among others.

The project is being constructed and funded by the NGO at an estimated cost of three hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵300,000).

Speaking to Opemsuo News Reporter Kwaku Wusu Aduomi at the colourful ceremony, Sompahemaa revealed that this initiative is being undertaken due to the inadequate accommodation for teachers at Fawoman-Dida D/A Basic School in the community.

She opined that in the 25 years of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s good leadership  on the Golden Stool, education has been one of the main core mandates he has passionately and positively contributed to.

Sompahemaa divulged that, since Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is changing lives through education, her foundation,  Sompahemaa Foundation is also well  poised to support education.

Furthermore, She highlighted that the foundation’s involvement in supporting education aligns with commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Asantehene.

“Not only Teachers’ Quarters is the sole problem of the school, but this basic school is lagging behind in terms of classrooms, portable water, a library, etc. I am appealing to the government, NGOs, organizations, residents living abroad, and Ghanaians to pay attention to the school. You can all witness the dilapidated nature of the school which needs immediate attention,” she added.

On his part, the Patron of Adehye Empire, also doubling as Otumfuo Damponanohene Nkosuohene, Nana Nsuobeyebuoden Owusu Boateng Aduomi, explained the motive behind collaborating with Sompahemaa in funding the project.

“This initiative was communicated to us as an NGO. When we visited the school, our organization expressed readiness to assist in providing various facilities, not limited to the construction of the Teachers’ Quarters.”

“The Teachers’ Quarters marks Phase 1 of the project. Upon its completion, Adehye Empire is prepared to embark on subsequent phases, including the construction of an ultramodern library, ICT Center, and other facilities aimed at enhancing the quality of education for both teachers and students.”

He further said that the NGO intends to construct a Junior High School block.

“It’s noteworthy that students face challenges attending Junior High School due to the community’s lack of a JHS block. Our organization is committed to addressing this issue by pledging to construct a JHS block for the community. This initiative aims to enhance education, support students, and minimize dropouts. The construction is set to commence in September of this year.”

Mr. Emmanuel Osei Tutu, the Headmaster of Fowoman-Dida D/A Basic School, expressed gratitude to Nana YAA Adwubi Kete and Adehye Empire for their gesture.

He emphasized that the project would greatly benefit the teaching staff by addressing accommodation challenges, improving proximity, and enhancing punctuality in teaching and learning.
