Komla Dumor Would’ve Been My Vice Presidential Nominee – Alan

The founder of the Movement for Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has disclosed that the late legendary Ghanaian journalist Komla Dumor would have been his choice for a running mate had he been successful in his Presidential aspirations with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This, he said, is because of their apparent natural bond and like-mindedness.

“Komla would have been my Vice-Presidential Nominee in one of my earlier Presidential Primary bids. He and I shared a common day of birth, 3rd October, and in that respect, we considered ourselves as ‘soul brothers’.”

“We shared common perspectives on many issues across various topics. Although he was much younger than me, we communicated as peers due to his maturity and depth of reasoning. We had very stimulating discussions about his work in journalism and my fields of public service and private-sector engagement.”

This message comes as the late media personality is being remembered 10 years after his passing in London, United Kingdom (UK), following a cardiac arrest.

He was 41 years old at the time and worked with the BBC, being the only West African newsreader on BBC World News at the time.

As a monument to keep his legacy, the BBC has instituted what it calls the BBC News Komla Dumor Award, which is presented annually “to an outstanding individual living and working in Africa, who combines strong journalism skills, on-air flair, and an exceptional talent in telling African stories with the ambition and potential to become a star of the future”.

The media fraternity and other Ghanaians have taken to social media to remember his exceptional journalism skills.

Alan, in his post on Facebook, said he had left “deep footprints that will always remain etched in history”.

Journalist Bernard Avle on his Facebook page scripted a touching message calling “Komla an African Icon and More”.

It read, “Komla Dumor was an African Icon and more. My big brother, friend, and mentor took a journey 10 years ago today. A Legend we could learn from, an icon we all wanted to imitate, a trailblazer who left us mesmerized by his skills as a presenter, his tenacity as a journalist, his humanity as a friend, and his legacy as a generational leader.

“A decade since you took your journey, I still miss you. Thank you for smashing the glass ceiling for us. Keep resting well, brother!”
