Akufo-Addo’s Statement on Ekumfi Neglect Unfortunate – MP

The Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Constituency, Hon. Abeiku Crentsil, has described as unfortunate the comments made by President Akufo-Addo regarding the underdevelopment of Ekumfi.

He joins the number of Ghanaians who have criticized the President for his statement.

According to him, the President’s remarks have swayed the constituency towards the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“To me, I can say that the President has more or less spoken for the people to keep on voting for the NDC. Indeed he knows that if NPP is in power for whatever years, there is nothing the people of Ekumfi…It’s a very unfortunate statement and there is no way the people of Ekumfi will vote for NPP,” he said on Eyewitness News, monitored by opemsuo.com.

“It’s unfortunate that the NPP has been in power for the past seven years and you cannot find one sign of project they have done for the people of Ekumfi.”

Background
The President, during a courtesy visit by some family members of the late and former President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills on January 12, justified the underdevelopment of Ekumfi in the Central Region when the natives, among other things, petitioned him about the lack of development in the area.

Akufo-Addo indicated that his neglect was due to the constituents’ decision to vote out his party’s parliamentary candidate in the 2020 general elections.

“Ato Cudjoe was your MP and I made him a Deputy Minister and you voted him out in the last elections and because of that, I did not pay attention to development in your area, I have to be honest with you but since you have brought it up I will pay attention to it.”
