The Black Stars of Ghana have arrived in Ivory Coast for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which begins this Saturday.
The players together with officials of the team left the country adorned in white Kaftans but were upon arrival in Ivory Coast pictured draped in Kente cloths- the Ghanaian way.
Their departure, with the hope of returning with the Cup, comes after six days of rigorous training in Kumasi where they camped ahead of the tournament.
As part of their preparation for the tournament, the Black Stars hosted Namibia in a friendly on Monday that ended in a stalemate, creating concerns about the preparedness of the team for the tournament.
The players include Lawrence Ati Zigi, Richard Ofori, Jojo Wollacott, Alidu Seidu, Dennis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, Hamid Abdul Fatawu, Daniel Amartey, Nicholas Opoku, Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, Samed Salis, Baba Iddrisu, Majeed Ashimeru, Elisha Owusu, Richmond Lamptey, Mohammed Kudus, and Andre Ayew.
The rest are Ransford Konigsdorffer, Osman Bukari, Joseph Paintsil, Jordan Ayew, Ernest Nuamah, Iñaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo and Jonathan Sowah.
They will play their group opener against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14 and take on Egypt four days later before their final group match against Mozambique.
Ghana will be seeking to extend their wins to five after last winning the tournament in 1982.
