Cook-a-thon: Faila Turns Off Stove
Chef Abdul Razak Failatu has turned off her stove to officially bring her cooking marathon to an end today, January 10, 2024, completing 227 hours and two seconds of continuous cooking.
She turned on the stove at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale in the Northern Region on January 1, 2024, four days after Afua Asantewaa completed her attempt to break the longest singing marathon.
The Executive Chef throughout the ten days of her adventure showed no sign of stress and fatigue to the amazement of the world.
Her sumptuous and impeccably served dishes took centre stage as they stole the spotlight and were the talk of the town from the first day.
She aims to scribe her name in the books of the Guinness World Records (GWR) and create awareness about her restaurant based in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana to the world after smashing the 119 hours 57 minutes longest cooking marathon record by Alan Fisher, an Irish Chef based in Japan.
After advertising a 5-day marathon, she was forced to extend it to ten after a Ugandan chef finished 144 hours, seven minutes and 24 seconds of cooking yet to be certified by the GWR.
The Marathon attracted personalities and support from all corners of the country to Tamale over the 10 days.
Chef Faila received visits from the overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former First Lady Lordina Mahama and Chief of Staff, Fremah Osei Opare.
The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Saibu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, MP for Tamale South, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, and MP for Tamale Central, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed also visited her.
Celebrities including Wiyala, Kwabena Kwabena, Yaw Dabo, Fancy Gadam, Asamoah Gyan, Stephen Appiah and Afua Asantewa Aduonum were not left out.
She has been conferred with the Executive Chef rank by the Association of Chefs in Ghana for exposing the country’s hospitality industry to the world.
Her husband, Captain Reginald Ofosuhene Adjei, showed unflinching support during the course. In an interview with 3News last week, he announced, “I’m super proud of her.”
Faila in a Facebook post after the end of the marathon revealed the secret behind her energy in the kitchen in the course of her run.
“If there’s one thing that keeps me happily stationed in the kitchen, it’s the sheer joy I witness on the faces of those enjoying my food. The way each of you dives into your meals with genuine enthusiasm gives me a true sense of purpose in this history-making endeavour.”
