Anglican Church Informs Asantehene About Newly Created Dioceses

The Anglican Church of Ghana has formally informed Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about the creation of new Dioceses in the Greater Accra Region and the Bono Region.

The church also introduced leaders elected to head the two Dioceses to the King at the Manhyia Palace during the eighth Awukudae festival of the year on December 20, 2023.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Rt Rev Oscar Amoah, the Bishop of Kumasi said the enlargement of the church in Accra and Sunyani called for a segregation and creation of two more Dioceses.

“Tema has been segregated from Accra whereas Nkoransah has been segregated from Sunyani.”

He furthered that the development called for the election of leaders for the Dioceses.

He introduced Rev George Neequaye and Rev George Dawson-Amoah as elected leaders for the Tema and Nkoransah Dioceses respectively.

They will assume responsibility from February 3, 2023, after their swearing-in ceremonies.

Otumfuo expressed confidence in the elects.

“Rev Amoah has been trained well by his superiors and I am confident he will be great at his newly found mandate. He grew up here at Asante New Town together with the Archbishop. I also know my grandson Neequay will do well.”

His Majesty also stressed on the significance of the role clergymen play in the country saying, “All this is meant to propagate the word of God to help regulate the lives of people. This is the time to push the word of God.”

Among the delegation was the Bishop of the Internal Province of Ghana and West Africa, Most Reverend Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith.
