Otumfuo Destools Kwaprahene
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has brought the almost 30-year leadership and rule of Kwaprahene Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin to an end after destooling him during Monday’s sittings of the Kumasi Traditional Council.
His destoolment came after he was found guilty of the illegal sale of lands, multiple sales of lands, embezzlement of stool funds and the display of contempt for the occupant of the Golden Stool and the Akwamu Division.
He was destooled on Monday, December 11 in absentia after efforts by the Akwamu Division and summons by the King were dishonoured.
Rites for his destoolment were ordered to take place immediately.
Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin misconducted himself when he engaged in the sale of some stool lands without credence to his elders. Additionally, he was accused of embezzling funds meant for the stool.
He was also accused of selling the same land to multiple people in his jurisdiction. Some persons who embarked on legal recourse are yet to retrieve their funds after getting rulings in their favour. A sister to Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, Otumfuo Nkosuohene is one of such victims.
The case was officially brought before Otumfuo and the traditional council after one of his victims opted for the traditional channel and petitioned the Council, paving the way for all other victims to use the same means and make their cases against the chief.
After hearing the woman’s case against the chief, the President of the Traditional Council recalled pardoning and warning him against similar charges some years ago.
He was thus ordered to be destooled immediately.
Stool elders of the Kwapra were also found culpable for failing to administer their mandate of putting the chief to order in the course of his misconduct.
Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin becomes the fifth traditional ruler to be destooled by the King of the Asante Kingdom this year for various offences beginning with the former Antoahene Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman I, Kwasohene Nana Nketia Boampong, Bekwai Abodomhene Nana Saforo Koto and Nkonsonhene Nana Osei Tiri Ababio.
