{Pictures}Black Queens Receive Hero’s Welcome At KIA

The Black Queens of Ghana have arrived home after their trip to South Africa for a clash against Namibia which saw them qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

They now form part of twelve nations to compete in the 15th edition of the tournament which will be staged in Morocco.


The Queens who have since their time with Coach Nora Hauptel impressed the country and brought delight and respect to the country’s senior national women’s team, received a hero’s welcome at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

Some pictures shared by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) featured the young team members wheeling out their belongings and posing for pictures with fans who had been waiting for hours for their arrival amidst cheers and choreographed performances.

At the Airport was the President of the GFA, Mr Kurt Okraku.


The Black Queens Qualified for the first time in five years despite losing by 1-0 to Namibia at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa on Tuesday with a 3:2 aggregate.

The Black Queens failed to make it to the 2022 tournament after their last in 2018.

They will be attempting their first win after placing third both in 2004 and 2016, second in 2006, getting eliminated at the group stages in 2008, 2010 and 2018 and not qualifying in 2012.
