This Is Dangerous- SP On Bissue Restraining Order
The Special Prosecutor (SP), Kissi Agyebeng has broken the silence on his thoughts about recent court actions “hampering” his Office’s mandate in investigating persons of interest in corruption and corruption-related offences.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, November 29, the SP described as dangerous, the judiciary’s restraining order against arresting Charles Bissue, a former Secretary of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), after the latter was declared wanted for defying an invitation by the OSP in June.
He discerns that the action of the judiciary is interference and will motivate the other suspects to shun investigations through court actions.
“This is dangerous,” he stated. “Everyone under investigation will be encouraged to injunct the OSP.”
On June 15, the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra granted a 10-day injunction to restrain the OSP from arresting Bissue after the latter filed an injunction application.
It followed his declaration as a wanted person when he refused to make himself available for investigations into suspected corruption within the dissolved IMCIM.
