Kotoko Qualifies for FA Cup Round of 32
Asante Kotoko netted three first-half goals and a beautifully converted penalty in the second half to advance to the next round of the MTN FA Cup competition at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Tuesday night.
They however conceded two goals from Nations FC whose run in the competition yesterday came to an end.
The Porcupines registered early three goals through Ugandan striker Steven Mukwalaa, Isaac Oppong and Richmond Lamptey, 17 minutes into the game.
The first consolation for Nations FC came in the 30th minute thanks to Nafiu Sulemana. The leaders held onto their grounds till half time.
Right after recess, Kotoko won a penalty which was converted by Mukwalaa before another consolation was pulled back for Nations in the 70th minute.
Mukwala who won the Man of The Match Award with his two goals and two assists in a media engagement said the results were part of the team’s hard work behind the scenes.
The 24-year-old added that his tally in goal scoring is building his confidence as a player.
“They are trying to build my confidence…I believe I’m going to score more….I’m proud of myself, my teammates and coaches. We have really worked hard behind the scenes.”
Meanwhile, the assistant coach of Kotoko, Davd Ocloo promised to deal with the defensive side of the team which lowered guard for the 2 conceded goals.
“After scoring the four, we were more relaxed but the concentration at the back was a bit questionable. We will go back and work on it.”
That notwithstanding, he commended the players for their victory.
“It was a great game. We started very well. We were very disciplined, tactically very disciplined. We played according to instructions. The boys did well.”
