Circle Council Condemns Destruction By Kotoko Fans
The Ashanti Regional Circle Council has condemned the act of vandalism that characterized the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday when Asante Kotoko Sporting Club took on Nations FC at Aberankese.
The regional Council emphasized that violence cannot be “tolerated for any justifiable reason”.
“As football-loving fans, striving to protect the sanctity and beauty of the Ghana Premier League (BetPawa Premier League), we must be measured by our utterances in our quest to express our displeasure on certain decisions during and after matches devoid of any form of vandalism.”
A press statement signed by Mr Alexander Asare Manu, the Executive Chairman of Ashanti Regional Circles Council, also apologized to stakeholders for the fans’ conduct.
“Any damage caused advertently or inadvertently is regrettable thus, unequivocally apologize to His Honor Dr Kwame Kyei, the management of Nations Fe and the entire football fraternity.
“It is our hope that this wouldn’t be an impediment to the healthy relationship that exists between the two clubs, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and Nations Football Club.”
The mayhem began after the officiating referee decided to award what many Kotoko fans deemed an “undeserving” penalty to the hosts.
The fans registered their displeasure at the decision by removing and destroying seats in the stand. Others tended to throw the seats onto the pitch.
Nations FC successfully converted the penalty to level the scoreline, ending the match on a 2-2 note.
