No Casualties In Fire Outbreak At Railways Police Station- Police
The Ghana Police Service has reported zero casualties in the fire outbreak that gutted a building housing a police station and offices of the Ghana Railways Authority at Adum in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The fire is said to have started around 6 pm on Wednesday.
One of the videos of the inferno which circulated on social media run with a commentary that personnel of the Fire Service had delayed in responding to their calls.
It also said the inmates in the cells and other occupants of the two-storey building had been evacuated to safety.
In a statement later, the police confirmed the fire had been extinguished with the help of the necessary authority. It also confirmed there was no casualty recorded.
“There is a fire outbreak at the Railways Police Station at Adum in Kumasi. The Police, working with the Ghana National Fire Service, have brought the situation under control.”
It also indicated that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained and then promised to keep the public updated.
Meanwhile, the Metro Fire officer of the Ghana National Fire Service in Kumasi, D.O 2 Asiedu Thomas has contradicted claims that their officers delayed in their response to the development.
“We received a call around 18:31 indicating that there was a fire outbreak at the Adum Police Station so we dispatched and arrived at the scene around 18:40 and realised the first floor of the Police Station was on fire and the intensity of the fire demanded that we called for assistance and we were able to confine the fire within the two rooms where it started and so the contents in the two rooms were burnt,” he is cited as saying by CNR.
