4 Players Replaced in Ghana Squad for Mexico, USA Friendlies
Four players have been replaced in Ghana’s squad for the highly anticipated friendlies against Mexico and the United States of America (USA), set to begin in three days.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Tuesday that Tariq Lamptey, Daniel Amartey, Alexander Djiku, and Osman Bukari have withdrawn from the 23-man squad named by Chris Hughton earlier this month.
All of them are reported to have been sidelined due to injuries, which led to their withdrawal.
In their place, Hughton has called up Kingsley Schindler, Stephan Ambrosius, and Jerome Opoku, as noted by GFA.
Schindler and Ambrosius are already with the rest of the team, while Opoku is scheduled to join them today.
The Black Stars are currently in Charlotte, preparing for the games. On Tuesday, nineteen players trained at the Charlotte FC training facility, as reported by the GFA on its website.
The group included Richard Ofori, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Alidu Seidu, Kingsley Schindler, Nicholas Opoku, Stephan Ambrosius, Gideon Mensah, Joseph Aidoo, Joseph Painstil, Salis Abdul Samed, Antoine Semenyo, Ernest Nuamah, Ransford Konigsdorffer, Jordan Ayew, Elisha Owusu, Inaki Williams, Edmund Addo, and Thomas Partey.
Ghana will kick off their first match against Mexico on October 14 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, and then face the USA on October 17 at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
These friendlies are intended to prepare the team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote D’Ivoire in January.
