NPP Has Strayed from Its Founding Principles – Alan
The former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has now metamorphosed from the virtues it was identified with when it was formed 31 years ago.
He finds difficulty recognizing his party of old as it has been “hijacked’ by leaders he described as “apparatchiks”.
“I joined the New Patriotic Party at the very beginning of its establishment as a Founding Member, believing in its core values and the long-standing traditions of its antecedents, predicated on fairness, equity, probity, accountability, and transparency.
“I have devoted the best part of my professional career to serving the Party, and I still believe in the vision of the founding fathers of the Party. However, the NPP as it exists now has very little resemblance to the Party that I joined in 1992 and helped to nurture.”
“The Party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, government appointees, ‘behind the curtain power brokers’ and some unscrupulous Party apparatchiks,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference on September 25, Alan chronicled incidents of attack and hostility his supporters have endured to emphasise the new form the NPP has taken.
He alleged that his supporters are treated with “disdain” and as “outcasts” as a result of their association with him.
“Indeed the divisive and hostile attacks on my person and my supporters remained for several years thereafter, and have continued to date. It is common knowledge that any Party member who is associated directly or indirectly with Alan is treated with disdain and considered an outcast.”
