Asenso Boakye Confronts Kennedy Agyapong Over “Mischievous Lie”
The Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency, Francis Asenso Boakye has confronted flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong over what he called a “mischievous lie”.
According to him, though Kennedy didn’t mention his name while making the statement, his inferences suggest the statement was directed at his person and therefore he found it intentional to cause “disaffection for me, sully my good standing within the Party and neutralize whatever leverage I have on the Delegates.”
“The said remarks are to the effect that a certain minister of state from Bantama has told Delegates to vote for His Excellency, Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be elected presidential candidate of the Party so as to become more attractive to Ghanaians after 4 years of H.E John Mahama’s imminent Presidency. Even though he did not explicitly mention my name (purposely), I’m currently the only minister of state from Bantama, so I reasonably assume he’s referring to me,” a statement released by the Minister for Works and Housing stated.
“This blatant lie is not only ludicrous but also politically puerile. The NPP Government is deeply committed to working hard to improve the well-being of Ghanaians and by so doing, earn their continued goodwill,” he continued.
He however reiterated that “Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia is the extraordinary candidate that the NPP needs to break the ‘eight’” and urged all the party members to work towards achieving it.
Hon Kennedy Agyapong made the comments during his Showdown Walk held over the weekend in Accra.
