Black Sherif Allegedly Arrested For Contract Breach

Reports yet to be confirmed suggest that Ghanaian musician Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong known as Black sheriff has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

The Vailain I Never Was composer is said to have been arrested on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) while returning from a music tour in the United States (US) and Europe.

According to Kenneth Awotwe Darko, a journalist, music enthusiast and social media analyst, the Ghanaian has been accused of breaching a contract for a cruise ship performance.

He explained that Black Sherif was booked for the cruise ship performance, a move which was duly heeded by the singer’s agents- an unnamed leading international company representing artists, athletes, and brands across the globe.

Citing unidentified sources, Kenneth said the complainant made an initial payment of $20,000 out of a $40,000 booking fee- which did not include a requirement for promotional videos for a press launch ahead of the yet-to-be-held event- to the musician’s agency.

“But in an interesting twist, the businessman and organiser of the cruise pressed the agents demanding promotional videos from Black Sherif with threats to cancel the contract, if the videos are not submitted which was a breach of the contract.

“Amidst these threats of cancelling the contract and lawsuits, the singer’s agents chose to refund the initial deposit in good faith, as the contract reportedly had no clause mandating such promotional videos. However, the source said the complainant insisted on being reimbursed $50,000 instead of the initial $20,000 fee he parted with, a move which Black Sherif’s agents found unfair and inconsistent,” Kenneth alleged in a write-up.

The businessman therefore pressed charges with the Ghana Police Service alleging breach of contract.

The artiste was, therefore, allegedly arrested to assist in investigations when he landed in Ghana yesterday.
